Director’s Statement
I wish I could have said "I don't trust anyone and I hate myself" in a kinder way, but while I was working on this I couldn't. I co-wrote Satisfaction with a good friend, produced and shot it with the best creatives I know, and met some of the most talented actors and actresses I've worked with. From those first rough outlines to the finished product streamed onto your screen at this moment, the project evolved and matured. Myself with it. It began as an anxiety-ridden, blood-soaked revenge trip. It was over the top and arrogant, and got trashed after the first rehearsal. So I stepped back from the project a bit, and the people I trusted to create with me brought something better.
This is a very painful short. There's a lot of angst and hatred and anger and confusion that we poured into this piece. But we were able to leave it there. When we watched our final cut together, we looked at the people we were when we started working on this together and how we've matured since then: I've matured to a place where I hate what I made. There's not much good it can do for anyone who watches it. But I love what it meant to everyone who worked on it and will never cease to applaud their incredible craftsmanship on full display here.
I hope you find something to appreciate during these twelve minutes. And I hope you'll forgive me for the mistakes I needed to make so I could learn to be a more mature creative. The next one won't be so hateful, I promise.
